We’re quite partial to the latter. There’s a lot to love about a Christmas market, from seasonal sweet treats and drinks, to the quaint stalls featuring decorations and gifts.

To truly make your Christmas magical this year, we advise prioritising getting out there and attending as many markets as you can. Here, we’ll cover exactly how to do it with our compilation of the best UK Christmas markets.

We’ll start our journey in London, working our way throughout the nation towards Scotland and ticking off the most picturesque routes and markets on the way.

While there are other winter wonderland celebrations around the UK, the celebration held in Hyde Park is perhaps the most well-known and anticipated.

Although Bath Christmas market isn’t as grand as Hyde Park, the quaint vibe and pleasant journey are certain to pique your interest.

Heading North now, and we’d be remiss not to mention the absolute experience that is the Frankfurt Christmas market in Birmingham. If you’re a fan of Germanic Christmas traditions, great food and drink, and a lively atmosphere, this Christmas market will not disappoint.

This market is an entertaining stop, but also a practical one. Birmingham sits roughly in the middle of the UK, making it a logical place to plan your next break. Remember, while enjoyment is important, so is planning.

It’ll take you roughly two hours to travel from Bath to Birmingham’s Frankfurt Christmas market (101 miles). That journey can be taken throughout the Cotswolds to make it even more pleasant.

Fans of historic preservation will love this next stop. York is a bit of a hot spot in the UK for history, its streets practically brimming with Roman roots.

This is the quintessential Christmas market for a small-medium-sized city. There are plenty of market stalls to choose from, serving up hot and cold food, and good connections to transport links around York make getting around the rest of the city a breeze.

As a further bonus, this bustling Christmas fair can be reached with a quick trip through the ever-so-beautiful Peak District.

These days, dashcams are everywhere on the market. No longer are there just a few reputable brands holding a monopoly on the retail space. Dashcam budgets can range from anywhere between £80 and £400, depending on the features you choose and the brand you select.

To be clear, when we say a detail, we don’t just mean a couple of quid for your local automatic car wash. Those things are notorious for leaving scratches, swirl marks, and water spots all over a car’s paint job. The reality is, this doesn’t matter to the average car owner, but the recipient of this gift is anything but the average car owner – their motor is their pride and joy, but keeping it clean can be a challenge when they’re so busy enjoying it.

Do some research around your local area for mobile detailers with high reviews. These car cleaning maestros will come and visit your recipient on a day of their choosing and spend an entire day intricately cleaning every square inch of their car.

Detailing starts at around the £300 mark for an interior and exterior clean, which includes a small amount of paint correction (to remove scratches and swirls). For anything extra, like ceramic coatings to protect the paint, you can expect anywhere from £500 upwards.

Top Small Car: Toyota Yaris (2024 facelift)

Back when the fourth generation of Yaris was revised in 2020, it hit the market with a sporty new look and a host of features as standard. This Yaris sold well, and for a while it was hard to find without putting yourself on a waiting list – the hallmark of any top car.

In 2024, the new Yaris received a slight facelift with some upgraded internal tech like USB-C sockets, wireless charging, and even the option of a slightly more powerful engine. Now with an extra 20 horsepower, for those who wanted a little more power from the standard 114 horsepower hybrid. All of this makes the Yaris one of the best cars 2024 had to offer.

If you already had your eyes on the Yaris, this 2024 model should probably be your new de facto choice. We fully expect the used market to be rampant with these wonderfully efficient motors in the new year, making 2025 a great time to enjoy Toyota’s hybrid mastery.

With a high Euro n-cap safety rating of five stars, brilliant fuel efficiency, and unmatched manufacturer warranty, the Yaris continues to be a solid choice.  

The Dacia Duster has a bit of an image problem. Yes, it’s from the Renault-owned, budget-conscious brand of Dacia, but that needn’t be an issue.

When the Duster was launched to the UK market in 2013, it became an instant hit among financially-savvy car buyers at the time. With its low price point, however, came an equally low amount of mod-cons and features. Some models were even available without a radio, would you believe!

However, the Duster has done a lot of growing up in the 10 or so years that it’s been in the UK, and the new version released towards the end of 2024 is a big upgrade. The diesel-fuelled model has been exiled and replaced with a hybrid petrol model, meaning smoother take-offs and decent fuel economy, the interior is more akin to a car released in this century, and the exterior rivals the looks of more expensive SUVs from Range Rover and Audi.

While the original Duster was well received, this new version is even more hotly anticipated. The SUV has won ‘Value Car of the Year’ in the UK Motor Awards, while Carbuyer has already given it the ‘Car of the Year’ award for 2025.

We fully expect thousands of owners to embrace the new Duster in 2025. Will you be one of them?

The Renault Clio has been feeling a little unloved in recent years. While Renault figured out its identity crisis throughout the mid to late 2010s, bouncing between sticking to what it knows and innovating, the Clio became a bit of a moot point in the car buying process. Options from Ford, Nissan and Toyota were simply more attractive, with better options, features, and fuel economy.

The newest Renault Clio draws a line under all this uncertainty and hits back with a revised chassis, new powertrain options, and a totally modern exterior to give Renault the wow factor it once had with its Renault Sport line of Clios.

This year, the Clio took home the award for ‘Small Car of the Year’ in the UK Car Awards, while Carsa lists it as one of the safest small cars to buy in 2024 thanks to its exceptionally high Euro n-cap rating.

If there’s something to know about Volvo, it’s that when they do 4x4s, they do them well.

The Volvo EX60 is the Swedish manufacturer’s latest foray into the all-wheel drive market. We’ve classified it as a 4x4 but, in all honesty, the EX60 sits somewhere in between the modern SUV and the 4x4. Yes, it has all-wheel drive which ticks the main 4x4 criteria, but the EX60 isn’t big, bulky, and in your face – its footprint is surprisingly small for this market segment, helping it fill some pretty niche use cases.

The EX60 specifically is the fully electric equivalent to the current XC60; a car that has won numerous car of the year awards in its previous iterations. Most recently, it won the ‘Best Towcar’ award from TMS Motor Group, while previously taking the ‘Best Used Large SUV’ award in the What Car? Used Car of the Year awards in 2021.

Volvo has made some pretty innovative alterations and changes to pave the way for this new version, including integrating the battery pack into the floor of the vehicle for a more efficient use of space.

With the brand already having a few outings in the electric market including the likes of the EX30 and EC40, we’re excited to see what this SUV/4x4 brings to the table when it launches in 2025.

Polestar, Volvo’s electric vehicle sister company, has been slowly but surely building a name for itself in the EV space since it stormed into the market around 2021 with the Polestar 2.

The newest addition to its lineup, the Polestar 4, is on track to be one of the brand’s best models yet. This model fits squarely between the 2 and 3 size-wise (which can be a little confusing), and brings with it the same level of connectivity, innovation, and style as seen by its counterparts.

With both of those models taking home some runaway victories in car award shows, there’s every reason to be excited about the Polestar 4. The Polestar 3, , shocked the market in the prestigious Good Design Awards, taking a gold award for product design, as well as winning the ‘Best Exterior Design’ and ‘Best in Class’ award in the automotive category. In fact, the Polestar 4 won ‘Production Car Design of the Year’ from Car Design News in 2023 – a coveted award in such a competitive market segment.

Having stayed in the market, the Polestar brand is starting to break away from some of the Tesla similarity claims that once plagued the name and has now developed a range of cars fit for a wide range of uses.

Long distance driving is not for the faint-hearted. It takes a skilled person to endure multiple hours of non-stop driving.

Whether it’s for safety or enjoyment, driving for long distances needs to be carefully prepared for and considered to minimise stress throughout your journey.

Here, we’ve prepared some safety tips for long distance driving, as well as some ways to keep you and your friends/family entertained for the whole journey.

When you’re far from home, it’s important to be prepared. Driving long distances can put you out of your comfort zone, so you should always have some safety essentials close by in the event of an accident.

Most cars these days will come with some breakdown recovery essentials, like portable emergency triangles to place behind your car, and sometimes even a small first aid kit. You can find yours somewhere in the boot of your car – if your car boot has a false floor, it’ll often be found there.

Make sure you double check that this is in place before heading off. The last thing you’ll want is to break down without a way of alerting other drivers or catch a puncture without a space saver!

While it can be tempting to cut your journey time by driving non-stop, this is never advised. Professional long distance drivers take breaks halfway through their working day, so you should follow their guidance and take a break at least halfway through your journey.

During your break, take a toilet trip and refresh yourself – grab some food and a drink, settle down for a while, and head back out when you feel ready.

If you’re a Briton driving abroad in somewhere like Europe, you’ll need to ensure your car is correctly labelled and branded. If your number plate includes the UK identifier with the Union flag, you don't need to display a UK sticker. You’ll only need to place a UK sticker on the rear of your vehicle if your plate has:

a national flag of England, Scotland or Wales

or if you're visiting Spain, Cyprus and Malta (regardless of what is on your number plate).

This tells other road users, and law enforcement, that your vehicle is foreign and that you may be sat on a different side to them. Don’t forget to check with your finance lender before taking your vehicle abroad!

In addition to ensuring your car’s safety pack is on board, make sure you spend some time checking over your car itself before a long distance journey. Here’s a quick road trip safety checklist for you to check off once you’ve covered each point:

Feeling nervous about driving long distance

Especially if you’re a fairly inexperienced driver, it’s perfectly normal to feel nervous or apprehensive about your first long distance road trip. These kinds of nerves are often called motorway anxiety, and there are a few things to do to help.

When you’re already nervous, the last thing you’ll want is to feel rushed. Make sure you leave with plenty of time to spare on your long distance journey. This is a great benefit if you’re driving to somewhere you’re unfamiliar with – the additional time can be used to account for any wrong turns, mistakes, or unexpected delays.

With car journeys, distractions can be deadly. Whether it’s constantly vibrating phones or loud passengers, anything that takes your attention from the road can have some pretty nasty consequences. Ask your passengers to be respectful, and close away your phone in the glove box to ensure it doesn’t distract you.

Although caffeine has its uses, sometimes, you can have too much of a good thing. Too much coffee or energy drinks can make you feel twitchy and anxious.

Instead, try getting a good night’s sleep before your journey – this will help you wake up feeling refreshed without the need for caffeine.

Travelling at different times of the day can have a major impact on your stress and anxiety.

Peak travel times – mornings and late afternoons will mean leaving and arriving at your location in and amongst hundreds, sometimes thousands of other travellers. If it’s at all possible to leave outside of these times, we recommend it. The roads will be quieter, which will allow you more time to make decisions.

If it’s motorways or different kinds of roads that stress you out, don’t worry. There’s nothing wrong with heading out for a practice drive a couple of days before your long distance journey to help you get a feel for how things are going to go.

Motorways in particular, especially for new drivers, can be a very stressful experience. Spend some time joining, leaving, and driving on the motorway and getting a feel for the speed at which you travel. Doing this can help with settling your nerves and managing your expectations for the travel ahead.

Efficiency, sustainability, and eco-friendliness are common topics of discussion when it comes to cars. Everyone wants to get the most out of their new motor, so it’s a valid concern.

If you’re on a car buying journey, you too are probably debating what kind of car to go for to extract the most value for your money. Well, we’re here to  help you make the right decision.

First thing’s first: what are eco-friendly cars?

When talking about sustainability and efficiency, the debate usually falls under a few factors:

Cars that emit lower emissions than others are often cheaper to run, requiring less fuel compared to less efficient alternatives. Ideally, a car would emit low emissions, have great mileage, and cost as little as possible to maintain.

But, these rules usually intersect similarly to the “Good, Cheap, Fast” Venn diagram. For example, you can have a car that has great mileage and low emissions, but the maintenance costs will be quite high.

Technically speaking, no car is inherently “good” for the environment. All of them have their own environmental impact in one way or another. Though, there are some cars that are better than others. For example:

Due to their low reliance on gases and fuels like petrol, electric cars are thought to be much more environmentally friendly compared to their more traditional counterparts.

Generally, this belief is true. Electric cars can be powered via sustainable energy sources such as solar power, but the production of electric cars can have just as high of an impact on our environment as those powered by internal combustion engines.

Lithium, the core component of the batteries found within electric cars, needs to be mined. This mining uses a mixture of heavy machinery and fossil fuels  – causing an inherent environmental impact.

Petrol and diesel cars are powered by fossil fuels themselves. This causes them to emit a range of harmful toxins and fumes into our environment while they are being driven – in addition to those emitted while the cars are being manufactured.

While engineers have carefully crafted measures to reduce this impact, such as catalytic converters, it’s impossible to filter out all of the harmful substances.

Proposed as a middle ground between gas-powered and electric vehicles, hybrid cars aim to pose all the mileage-based benefits of petrol and diesel cars, while also boasting some of the efficiency pros of battery-powered cars.

Unfortunately, providing an exhaustive list of the most environmentally friendly cars is challenging for a number of reasons. With there being subtle differences in models from one year to the next, in addition to the translation of laboratory-tested statistics to the real world, providing a definitive answer is near enough impossible to do.

What can be said, though, is make sure you enquire about fuel economy before committing to a purchase. The only reliable source of fuel efficiency comes from the car itself, and thankfully, many cars have onboard computers that automatically record this information.

The simplest way of determining your car’s fuel efficiency is to check the read out given by your onboard computer.

Different cars will have different methods to do this, but the result is usually the same. After a short time of travel, your car will automatically calculate how much fuel is left compared to how far you’ve travelled.

This will then report a MPG (miles per gallon) read out on your car’s display.

Traditionally, this information is delivered close to your odometer, as this will help you determine when a fill up is needed.

If you’re driving an especially old car, or if you want to double-check that your car is reporting correctly, your other option is to calculate MPG numbers by hand.

Starting with a full tank of petrol/diesel, reset your current mileage counter to zero or take note of its current figure.

Then, the next time you need to refill your car with fuel, take note of how much you put in both in litres and cost and your new mileage figure.

After this, divide the number of miles you’ve driven by the amount of fuel you’ve filled up with in litres. This gives you the total mileage in litres. To convert this to gallons, multiply the figure by 4.544.

For example, if you drive 350 miles with 30 litres of fuel, your fuel consumption will be around 53 mpg.

We have used information uncovered by Wikipedia and Google to find out our universal favourite, identified the top 5 cars across the world and revealed the most popular sports cars by country. Find out all you need to know below. 

To find the most popular sports cars in the world, we took the top 34 sports cars listed on Wikipedia and ran their names through Google search. 

By using analytical software, we were able to identify which cars have garnered the most search interest by country. We then used this to find the top five across the world. 

The Ford Mustang is an absolute classic. First revealed in 1964, it is the longest-produced Ford car nameplate and with that comes an immense heritage. The now-iconic design has altered slightly over the years, whilst its popularity has barely diminished.
